How do we love thee, KC? Let us count the ways...

Let's be honest here, folks ... good ol' KC isn't exactly considered a "hot spot" these days. With the mass exodus of our friends to more exotic locations and the recent bad press about KC being the worst city in America to be single, we're beginning to wonder. BAH! Nonsense...We love Kansas City!! To show mad love to our 913/816 digs, we've decided to compile a list of a few of our favorite things. We're not just about a cheap laugh here at Lil' Bit O' Drivel...we care about stuff. We look to you, beloved readership, to post a comment w/ your thoughts on the five categories below. Hopefully we'll have a nice working list of new and exciting things to do about town that we can all reference again...and again...and again.

Word to your Moms.

1) BEST MEAL IN KC UNDER $10:

Sarah - Salmon Burger with onion rings at O'Neals/ 95th and Mission.

Jeff - In-A-Tub Tacos (near the airport on I-29). Oh, baby. Go "Meat and Cheese". Lightly fried and stuffed w/ fluorescent orange powdered cheese and lettuce. I used to go there all the time for lunch and then go back to work and sleep under my desk.

2) BEST KEPT SECRET IN KC:

Sarah - Hi Hat...very small coffee shop by my house/53rd and State Line

Jeff - Le Fou Frog Happy Hour - Friday/Sat from 4:30 - 7:00. Rivermarket. Try the Salade de Chevre Chaud (Warm Goat Cheese Salad) and tie on a cold 1664 Kronenburg brewski.

3) BEST KC CLOTHES STORE:

Say anything other than "Habitat" (18th and Baltimore) and we will crush you.
4) BEST PLACE TO GO FOR FREE IN KC:

Sarah - Central Resource Library

Jeff - Sarah...NERD!! Nelson-Atkins
5) BEST PRODUCT IN A KC GROCERY STORE:

Sarah - Key Lime Pie Ice Cream Bars by "Fruit a Freeze"- they will change your life (can only buy them at Hyvee 87th and Pflumn and Price Chopper 151st and Metcalf)
Jeff - What's a grocery store?

BONUS QUESTION:

Does the amount of pulp in your orange juice directly influence whether or not you will drink it?

Sarah - Obviously no pulp. I drank Tang until I was 16 because pulp disgusts me so much. I'll go ahead and respond for Jeff here...he thinks I am totally crazy for even caring. I really want to know what everyone else thinks, because I've learned to not always let Jeff's opinion be my final answer. Sorry Jeff.

Jeff - People are starving in the world and you're worried about pulp? Sad.

I have to admit I did fall in love with much of KC. So my contributions to your poll are below. Oddly enough many of the categories could be addressed simply by going to the River Market. See my post about it when I lived in KC.

1) Best Meal in KC under $10:
Anything at Succotash or the Pho Tai at Hien Vuong Restaurant (both at the River Market)

2) Best Kept Secret:
La Bodega - the restaurant in general and its happy hour in particular.

3) Best KC Clothes:
Come on! Why even ask the question?

4) Best Place to Go for Free:
Downtown library at 10th and Baltimore. Is this the same place Sarah listed and I just didn't know the right name?

5) Best Product in a Grocery Store:
Not really a grocery store, but Al Habashi Mart (River Market) has the best almonds and spices.

Bonus: Pulp Sucks! But, honestly, Tang sucks too. Use a strainer like I did before Pulp-free juice was available.

Ahhh, Mem'ries. mmm, I'll play.

1) Best Meal in KC Under $10:
After much soul-searching, I will go with the Overlander with waffle fries at Tomfoolerie's. The fact that one can get food (good food!) for under $10 in Kansas City should not go unmentioned.

2) Best-Kept Secret:
Oh, Sarah. Hi Hat used to be a secret until you discovered it. I mean, who has never heard Sarah mention Hi Hat? I'm going to say Metcalf South Mall. That place is hopping -- sshhhhhh... Oh, how about that authentic Korean food place at 103rd & Metcalf! CORN WATER!!

3) Best KC Clothes Store:
I prefer to shop online. (gotcha johnny.) i was either going with that joke or goodwill on 89th and wornall.

4) Best place to go for free:
Loose Park or Swope Park (before sundown)

5) Best Product in a Grocery Store:
Smuggled-in Mexican Coca-Cola in scuffed glass bottles. It's made with real cane sugar -- none of that cost-effective corn syrup crap. You can find it tucked away in the Mexican food aisle (in certain parts of town).

BONUS: I like my juice nice and crunchy.

Can we please all applaud Jeff for the pretty pictures he found for this post? As he told me the other night..."you need pictures on your posts. Everybody likes what I write way more due to the pictures." You bring so many uniques gifts and talents to this blog.

2. classic cookie cafe. (also could be listed under #1). they serve cookies & muffins before your meal. what could be better?
3. you know.

Amen on Tang. Pulp is ultra nasty. Drinks are not for chewing.
And what about loving O-Town? We have... well...
My favorite free place is the frisbee golf course at Rosedale. The one with all the trees--this levels the playing field for me by limiting the distance.
Those key lime popsicles sound fantastic...you've got me curious now.

Man, I feel so not cool because I live at freaking 151st street.

(1) I'm thinking something FAST and under $10. For me, I'd go with either PepperJax (135th and Metcalf) or Pizza Street. Just ask Sarah, Pizza Street will give you far more than you bargained for!

(3) Wal-Mart...oh, I mean...Habitat.

(4) Arboretum...179th and Metcalf.

BONUS: Nicely done Eddy's! Some pulp is the best way to go. Too much will cause you to choke and die...but I think having no pulp at all changes the entire tast of the orange juice...for the worse. When you think about it, some pulp is really the only way to go.

I agree with Chris. River Market is where it's at. Habashi house has the best gyro I have ever eaten. I would bathe in their hummus if I could. And I have no words for my feelings toward Al Habashi Mart. Any place that sells fresh bulk spices for a buck a scoop has a special place in my heart.

I have to say I hate pulp because Sarah said our friendship depended on it. Really I don't care. I direct my pickiness towards more important things like shoes...

As if the fact that I've never heard of any of your best kept secrets doesn't make me uncool enough, here are my answers.

1. Hen House Salad Bar (had it for lunch today. Amazing. $4)
2. The local Indian cuisine (Korma Sutra at College and Metcalf is my favorite)
3. My mom buys all my clothes
4. The Arboretum. Nature is more beautiful than museums or libraries. Sorry.
5. See #1

Pulp Sucks.

I have no original thoughts.

I don't know you guys, but I have shopped at Habitat, and congratulate you on a wonderful store. I stumbled upon this KC hot spots list, and thought I'd chime in.

1) best meal in KC under $10:
-Breakfast: YJ's Southern Love on Sundays.
-Lunch: Al Habashi lunch specials in the City Market.
-Dinner: Anything at Sol Azteca, but only if you're hungry. I prefer the enchiladas verdes and the vegetarian burrito (fresh, tasty whole mushrooms inside!).

2)Best Kept Secret
-The entire Strawberry Hill neighborhood.

3)Clothes
-Variety = Spice of life. But 18th & Baltimore is the best bet.

4)Best place to go for free:
-Loose Park... and don't forget to go to the scent garden filled with herbs. It's just east of the rose garden.

5)Product in a grocery store:
-Mrs. Myers Clean Day geranium scented candles.

Bonus: Fresh squeezed is all I can handle. What a snob.
